Laver. Wa tidy, Cody. Dolling. Collins. Armstrong. Trumpet and McGregor. W anganui won the toss and batted, Orton and Cave going in. the bowlers being Cody and Noble. Cody bowled to Orton, two byes resulting from the first delivery. Then Orton got three off a drive. Cave opened his account with a brace. The pair continued * o score steadily, until at 34 Armstrong went on in place of Noble. A fine drive by Orton to the boundary off Mai ley and a single by Cave brought 40 up. but the latter was bowled with Mailely's last ball in the same over for a nicely played 17. Hasey joined Orton, who got a nice drive for four, and a pull for two off Armstrong. Hussey cut Mailer to the boundary, bringing -50 up. Rain set in during luncheon hour and continued steadily preventing the resumption of play. Prospects for to-mcrrow are not bright. When stumps were drawn at one p.m. to-day Wanganui had lost one for 51, as follows: WANGANUI. —Ist ' nniugs. Orton, not out ... 23 H. B. Cave, b Mailer 17 not out 4 Extras 7 Total for one wicket 51
