ART UNION DRAWING
THE WINNING NUMBERS. Credit must be given to the members of the Cook County Women’s Guild for their persistent efforts to raise funds to keep up that humanitarian institution, the Children’s Creche. A short time back tho Guild erected a fine building for the work in Awapuni Road, and furnished it. But such an institution, like Oliver Twist, asks for more The little ones have many needs, which require funds to supply. The latest method of raising the wind adopted by the Guild was by way of an Art Union. For months past the memebrs have been actively disposing of tickets, upwards of 1700 being sold. The drawing took place at the Opera House last night, and caused no little interest. The drawing was done in the presence of Detective McLeod, Mr J. Townley superintending in the absence of the Mayor (Mr J. R- Kirk), who was absent on the Coast. A lad was called up from the audience, and drew the following lucky numbers from the box for the four handsome works of art which were given as prises : - - No. 1123, A. MrPhail, 114 Grey Street. No. 192, Nurse McMahon, Vautier Street, Napier. No. 479, Mrs H. White, Ormond Road. No. 1009, Alfred Wynn, Matawai. It was announced that winners could secure their prizes on applying to Mr J. H. Martin, of the Gisborne Hotel. . A , Mrs A. Scott and Mrs Martin acted as joint hon. secretaries of the art union, and carried out their duties well.
