~ TOKOMARU BAY. FOOTBALL CLUB’S DANCE [FROM OUE OWN OOEJtESPONDENTI TOKOMARU, Oct. 19. The Tokomaru Bay Football Club’s annual plain and fancy dress ball was held in the Waima Wool store on Friday evening last. Aided by excellent weather conditions the ball proved a distinct success, fully 200 people attending. The hall was gaily decorated with bunting and greenery and Club’s trophies and banners. The floor was in splendid order, and the best of music was supplied by the Tokomaru “Bull’s Eye” Orchestra, consisting of Messrs W. Oates, jun., G. Pepper, S. J. Williams and E. Crocker. A sumptuous supper was laid out on three large tables, the tables being prettily decorated with flowers and ferns. There were many fancy costumes in evidence some of them being weird and wonderful. Miss N. Oates, as “Tokomaru Bay Defence Rifle Club” carried off first prize for the best ladies’ costume, Mrs J. R. Johnston being second, as representing “Oates Bros., Merchants, etc.” Both these costumes came in for much admiration, the voting being as follows: Miss N. Oates (50 votes) Ist, Mrs Johnston (40 votes) 2nd. Mr E. Morse as “Chinese Mandarin” gained first prize for the best gent’s costume, Mr Geo. Oates, as “Knight of the Bath” being second. The following ladies, and gents also attended in fancy dress: —Mrs Cartier, “Japanese Ladv”; Mrs E. Lincoln, “Spanish Dancer”; Mrs King, “Billiards”; Mrs Welsh, “Folly”; Miss Leslie, “Ballet Dancer”; Miss Schroder, “Norwegian Costume”; Mrs F. .Smith, “Highland Lassie’ ; Miss Mill, “Pierrette”; Nurse McDonald, “Nurse”; Miss Cave, “Union Jack”; Miss Smythe, “Spring”; Miss A. Barnsley, “Hare Bell”: Mrs Mallford, “Erin-gO-Bragh” ; Messrs Geo. •Oates. “Knight of the Bath’ ; J. R. Johnston, “Good-night”; C. Downey, “Nobody from Boston” ; H. Oates, “Deported Spirit” ; 1.. Littlejohn, “Nurse” ; Eric Morse, ••Mandarin''; S. Mill, “Cricket”; S. Popple. “Golly Woggle” ; A. Courtney, “Gold Top” ; Moodv. “Negro Boy”. Dancing was indulged in until 2 p.m. On beha 1 fof the Club and Committee Mr AY. Oates, sen., thanked all those who had so ably assisted to make the ball the success that it undoubtedly was.*
