DEATH OF AN OCTOGENARIAN.

MR J: PECKOVER PASSES AWAY

The announcement of the death of Mr Joseph Peckover, which occurred at a private hospital at 11.30 on Saturday night, after a short illness of about a week’s duration, will be received with widespread regret. The late Mr Peckover, who was 84 years of age, was a native of England, and had been in the Dominion about 20 years. He came to Gisborne about ten years ago, and for upwards of eight years carried on a land agency business, which he disposed of about a couple of years ago to Messrs Trail! Bros, and Co. The deceased gentleman was. actively associated in many branches of Christian work. He occupied the position of secretary to the local auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, a position which he has held for many years past. He also took a keen interest in temperance work, and for some years was a member of the executive of the Gisborne No-license League. A widow, who is at present in Wellington, is left to mourn her loss, and to her much sympathy will go out. The interment will take place at 1.45 to-morrow afternoon.
