POVERTY BAY SCHOOLS.
TO BE INSPECTED BY MEMBERS OF THE EDUCATION BOARD.
In order to see for themselves the condition of the schools in the North Ward, Messrs Whittington (Chairman), Major Crawshaw (secretary), and R. B. Ross, members of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, arrived from Napier on Saturday morning, and will pay a visit of inspection to the various schools throughout the district during the next three days. To-day the party will visit Otoko, Matawai, and Motu. The new school at Matawai will be officially opened by Mr Whittington to-day during his visit to that township. To-morrow, on the return journey, the schools at Whakarau, Puha, Te Karaka, Kaitaratahi, Ormond, and Waerenga-a-hika will he inspected. The party will devote Wednesday to an inspection of the towns schools, and the schools at Makaraka, Makauri, Patutahi, and Te Arai. Speaking to a “Times” reporter on Saturday, Mr Whittington laughingly stated that the Board had received so many requests for additions and improvements to the schools of this rapidly-growing portion of the district that they had decided to come up and see for themselves exactly how matters stood.
