After a twenty-round vigorous, exciting, and even battle., “Pal” Brown (America) scored a points victory over Mehegan. The loser was twice floored. JEANETTE v. LANGFORD. (Received Oct. 5, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 5. Jeanette was in fine condition, and Langford was not well-trained. Jeanette’s footwork enabled him to avoid much punishment. The prosecution of Jesse Willard for murder in connection with the death of Young has been dropped, and Tne case lias bc-on altered to a charge or prize fighting against the State laws.
SHOOTINC. CLOSE OF SEASON AT PATUTAHI A DAY’S FINE SPORT. ' Shootists turned out in big numbers at Patutahi on Saturday for the final day of the local club’s season. Tho day was splendidly fine and conducive to good snooting, and members consequently extracted a maximum of enjoyment and sport. Messrs Nicliolls and and L. D. Nathen ad Co’s trophies were shot for, and also Mr D. J. Barry’s cup. The first match was for the first-named trophies, a sweepstake also being held in connection. It was a 10-bird shoot, and tho scores were:—
H. Ritchie, R. Sargent, W. Pick'en and E. Bilham shot off for second and third places. The first three missed, and Bilham got his bird; leaving the former three to shoot for third place. Richie and Sargent got their birds and Pieken missed, leaving Richie and Sargent to light the battle out. Richie missed and Sargent scored. Final: —
THE BARRY CIJP. The second was a twelve bird handicap match for Mr Barry’s cup, which three times at intervals before becoming the winner’s property. The scores were as under:—
H. Ellis was thus winner of the cup. / A sweepstake held in connection with this shoot was not competed in by all and resulted in E. Billiam winning, ad leaving J. ' Knight and E. Sargent to shoot for second and third money.. ~J. Knight got his bird and Sargent missed. Result: Billiam 1, Knight 2, E. Sargent. 3. This cup will he carried over until next year, owing to Saturday’s being the closing shoot. THE LAST SHOOT. Following are the results of an’ 18bird sweepstake:—
J. Hills, E. Bilham, E. Sargent and F. Ellis tied. The three first missed, their birds and F.-Ellis .secured his, still leaving the three to compete lor second and third moneys. E. Saigent and J. Hill missed, Bilham breaking his bird to dust. J. Hill and E Sargent still struggled the third time. Hills missed and Sargent scored The Club, desires to thank all the donors of trophies, and also Mr J. McKenzie for allowing the use ot Jus ground. ' On Saturday, Mr J. Green refereed impartially, and Messrs A. Young (in the trap) and J. M. Gordon .(scorer) did good service.
