LONDON MARKETS REVIEWED. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM} _ WELLINGTON, Sept: 15. The Department.of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from tho High Commissioner, dated London, September 13.. (Note. —Quotations, unless otherwise stated, are average market prices on spot):— Mutton.—The mutton - market is firm. Prices continue to advance owing to River Plate and Australian mutton being in small supply. Canterbury .is at 4-kl; heavy-weight 4fd; North Island 4fd; ewes 4d. Lamb.— Tho lamb market is dull. Prices are firm on account of holders not being anxious to sell Canterbury. Two’s 5 11-16 U, heavy-weight (fours) 5Jd; other than Canterbury ofd. Beef.—The beef market is firm, with a good demand for hindquarters. New Zealand hindquarters "4 3-16 d, forequarters 3d; chilled hindquarters 4 3-16 d, forequarters 3d; chilled hindquarters 4fcl, forequarters 3d. Butter and Cheese.—- The butter market is firm. There is a good de-mand-for choicest, but it is poor for low grades. The market lias been unfavorably affected by large quantities at present in store. For some time past choicest Danish has been quoted at 130 to 131 s, French 110 s to 116 s, Dutch 110 s to Ills. Australian. 104 s to 110 s, Siberian 100 s to 104 s. The cheese market is firm, prices rising for Canadian and English. New Zealand stocks are almost exhausted. Canadian 66s to 675; New Zealand 6Ss (normal). English cheddar 70s to 80s.

Hemp.—The hemp market, is. depressed. Reports from Manila indicate that dealers are holding for better prices than obtainable here.. The demand on spot is good. Fair current Manila £3l; October to December £3O ss. The output from Manila for the week was 15,000 bales. The New Zealand market continues dull, in sympathy with Manila. New Zealand, good to fair grade, £3O, fair £25 10s; October'to December, good to. fair, £3O. Business has been done in fair grade'lbis week at £25 ss; sellers are asking £2 510 s. ... ; Sisal. —The disturbed political situation in Mexico lias depressed the market. Tbe present tendency is- downward, The price in New York is 5-J cents, equal to £29 per ton c.i.f. in Europe. v . . , ' Wool.—The wool market is quiet but firm, though new business is not very Hops.—lt is anticipated that the English new crop will be of excellent ’quality, but 50,000 to 80,000 cwt short of last year." The American crop is expected to be good. The Continental export will be small, owing to the German and Austrian crops being below tho average, showing a comined shortage of 300,000 cwt. " Future prospects ahe good, and tbe market .shows signs of strength.
