Matters in regard to the administration of Justice in Auckland form the subject of petitions now in circulation among the public. The Law Society lias had the matter under considerations now in circulation. These have come has not ‘been disclosed pending the return of the president of the Society (Dr Bam ford) from Wellington. Public feeling has been considerably aroused upon the subject, and ready support is being accorded to the petitions now in ckirculation. These have been issued by. prominent members of the legal fraternity, independent of the Law Society, and. the names attached to the first petition issued in-, elude leading professional and commercial men. of the city. The petition reads as follows:- —To his Worship the Mayor of Auckland. We, the undersigned beg to request that you will at bnce convene a public meeting to consider the question of Justice in the Supreme Court of this city and district.” The petitions are being widely circulated, and will- also be available for signature in the vestibules of various theatres each evening. Numerous letters have been addressed to the Mayor bearing on the subject.
