HAWKE'S BAY A. AND P. SOCIETY

JUBILEE SHOW. The first in the field with their annual spring agricultural show is, of course, the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society, who invariably had off the season’s fixtures. Breeders and exhibitors all over the Dominion will note with pleasure the fact that this popular Society is this year celebrating its jubilee, an event of sufficient rarity in this Dominion to merit special notice. The first show of the Society was hold at Havelock North in October, 1863, and, its record lias been one of continued- progress ever since. Judging by the very fine hook programme which has just been issued to breeders and members, the Society are celebrating their jubilee in a manner worthy of the occasion, as, indeed, might have been expected from such an up-to-date Society The first thing which attracts attention is the appearance of the programme itself. This has o cover printed in colors and contain# some dozen or .so illustrations of some of the animals which have been champions at this show in the past. This is an innovation which might well be followed by other Societies for the portraits are decidedly fine reproductions and give an excellent representation of the animais depicted. Then there are two excellent views of the Society’s new show ground, taken from Mr W. Nelson’s beautiful grounds adjoining. The first and most important feature, however, which has’ been decided upon to mars: the jubilee is the issue of jubilee a Ivor medals, one or.more of which have been allotted to every section of the show. In the most important classes, j.e., the stock classes, these me his will go to the championship winners. This will include the pig classes, l'nei'o are two medals for the. poultry classes, for best cock and hen respectively, any variety. In the dog classes the medals will go to the best working collie dog and bitch, and in the agricultural classes to Algerian oats, Cape barley, and perennial rye grass. There are also jubilee silver medals for powdered butter for the best exhibit in the needle work section, and for the floor mat, any description, showing the best workmanship in the Native industries section. Three jubileo gift classes with a total prize money of £33, will enabre owners of large and small flocks to contribute to the Society’s new show ground fund in. a manner which will also assist m increasing the entries and thus commemorating the jubilee of the Society in a suitable manner, for the whole of the exhibits in these classes will he auctioned on the last day ot tho show, the proceeds to go to the Society's new show ground lurnl. Jho Society is offering the record amount of f-ISfiO in cash and specials, and this should induce a large response} from exhibitors, and it is only Lav to assume that a record entry will he received. The Show will bo hold on October 22nd and 23rd and entries will close on October Bth.
