LETTERS OF CHARLOTTE BRONTE

ACQUIRED BY BRITISH MUSEUM AN OLD SCANDAL RECALLED. [UNITED PREBR ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT! (Received July 29, 10.50 n.m.) LONDON, July 29. The British Museum has acquired four letters written bv Charlotte Bronte to Professor Heger, who was the original of Paul Emanuel in “Vilette,” to prove that the suggested scandal attaching to Charlotte Bronte was untrue. The letters are in French and are dated July and October, 1844, and January and November, 1545. They display'a warm gratitude to Professor Heger as her literature master, together with a passionate protest against ltis grudging acceptance of her devotion. The letters suggest that “Vilette” was written to justify herself with Professor Heger.
