NOTES.

ilie barquimtino Lindstol came up the river yesterday after the crew had been inspected by Dr. Williams, and berthed at the town wharf. The vessel, which came via Cook Strait, experienced some bad weather in that locality, having to heave to off Cape Palliser on Tuesday. Sail was set at 2 a .in. on Wednesday and the barquentine arrived here some eight hours afterwards. She has a full cargo of coal from Newcastle consigned to the Gisborne Slieepfarmers’ Co. The schooners Awanui and Orete arrived at Auckland on Saturday last. The Richardson coaster Ripple arrives this Morning from Wellington and Napier and will leave again for the south on completing discharge to-night.

The U.S.S. Co's Katoa is due within the next few days.'from Newcastle with a full cargo of coal, and goes on to Napier to discharge later. The Tokomaru launoh WaJma was taken off the slip yesterday morning and left for that Bay. HAVRE DOWN SOUTH. HER INITIAL VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND An interesting arrival at Dunedin on Friday last was tho British Imperial Oil Company’s steamer Havre with a full cargo of benzine from Singapore. For one thing (says a Dunedin paper) she was conspicuous by her spick and span appoaranco both above and below deoks, and her funnel and propelling machinery being situated in the poop showed that she was a different type of craft from the usual cargo tramp. Her high hatch combings and gas-tight steel coverings, and the presence of many steam jets on deok, proved that she was laden with a highly inflammable oargo. Tho Havre was built at West Hartlepool seven years ago, and although she has made about half a dozen trips to Australia, this is her first visit to New Zealand. She left Singapore on the 23rd June with 62,000 oases of "Shell" benzine screwed down under hatches, and, with the exception of a heavy gale for a couple of days the voyage was a good one. The Havre arrived at Dunedin three days ahead of her schedule time.. During the gale referred to a huge sea struck her amid, ships and smashed hor port lifeboat, but no other damage was done. The vessel has on board part cargoes for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Napier. . She is manned by Chinese, and _ is commanded by Captain D. O. Davies, who has associated with him the following officers:—Mr R. H. Cairns (chief), Mr G W Ferris (sooond). and Mr R. S. Daniels (third). The enginoroom department is under the control of Mr E. fl. Ryland, his assistants being Mr C. 11. Harvey (second), Mr E. Ward (third),-and Mr H. Q. Gunton (fourth). TELEGRAPHIC. AUCKLAND.
