SATUR DA Y’ S MATCH ES. The hoc-key competitions were advanced another stage on Saturday, wlien two matches were played on tlio reserve, in the presence of a fan; number of spectators. CIVIL SERVICE “A” Y. MERCANTILE -B.” This game was played on No. 1 around. Mercantile had a full team, while theii- opponents were three men short Civils had much, the better of the first spell, registering 5 goals to nil (Port (2), Ward (2), and McBride (1) being the scorers In the second spell Mercantile made a bottei showing, and scored 2 goals, these being tlie only scores for the spell. Jhe game thus ended in favor of Civil Service by 5 goals to two. For the winners Hawkins played a fine gam , and was well supported by the other forwards. For the losers. GLaro m&tlc a good showing. Air. AA ills made an efficient referee.
CEVTL SERVICE “B” V. MERCANTILE “A.” The above game was played on No. 2 ground, and was a pretty even go, the score in the first spell being one all. In the second spell Mercantile put om two more.goals, and, won by 3to 1. For the winners Pycroft and Tvlackie played well, and Tor the los--oi*s Skctirsrj Birkottr <nicl Pitolioi shone out. Alessrs Howell and Oman refereed satisfactorily. TO-MORROW’S SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT.
To-morrow morning, commencing at 10.30 a.m., representative games will he played. The ladies’ match will be last year’s touring rep. team versus next best team. MERCANTILE TEAM GOES Wfe . SOUTH. An eleven from the Gisborne Mercantile team left- last night for Napier and were farewelled at the tender by a good number of followers. The team will he entertained by the Napier Mercantile Club at a dance to-night, and will meet a team from that club at Hastings “to-morrow. The team, which will arrive back at Gisborne on Wednesday morning, is as follows: R- Miller, W/Reddell, W r . Berry, J. Mackie, I. J. Quigley, A. Quigley, J. Benson, R-. Morse, G. Pollock, D. McLeod and M. G. Oman (manager). It was expected that more players would have been able to get away, but several found at the lasthnoment that it was impossible to arrange for leave.
