During Wootton’s case before the Appeal Court fuller particulars were given of Sievier’s statement of defence. Wootton’s counsel mentioned that the substance of the libel consisted of accusing Wootton and other trainers! of conspiring to decide the winning or losing of races, and that Wootton directed (his son and other apprentices to pull horses not backed by Wootton, and that the latter also ran halftrained horses when lie did not 'want them to win.
