He was implicitly trusted' in connection with measures against spies. When tile investigation proved that he had been selling; to Russia for the past 14 years many military secrets, the Minister for War summoned him to Vienna.- Four officers accompanied him to his room and said they would return in the morning and arrest him. They left a loaded revolver on the table with a book of instructions as to how l to use it. The officers then mounted guard outside until a shot was heard,
