The Gisborne Shakespeare Club will read “The Merchant of Venice” on Thursday next, June 5, at Wliinray’s Hall. Subscribing members will have their tickets posted, a's usual, and tickets are also obtainable at Miller’s and Adams’.

The Rev. T. Keith Ewen will preach in the Baptist Tabernacle, to-morrow on the following subjects: Morning 11 a.m., “The Lord’s Supper” (communion a close of service); evening, 7 p.m., “The Glory of the Gospel. Bible classes for young men and women as usual at 2.45.

Rev. W. Grant will preach morning and evening at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church to-morrow. Mr John Peach will preach in the Mangapapa Church at 7 p.m., and Missionary J. Williams in the Kaiti School at 7 p.m.

Like most good things, C. Rosie and Co.’s bargain days come to a close today. This firm reports a very busy time during these special bargain days, the cash sales being almost a record, All who believe in saving money should make a point of getting in in time to participate in these bargains, which were bought in London at about half-price.

Rev'. J. A. _Lochore will conduct both services in the Methodist Church to-morrow. Subjects: Morhing, “Redeemed Vision” ; evening, “What are our Interests?” Anthem by Sir A. Sullivan, “I will Mention,” with tenor, solo by Mr Heathcote. The monthly comunion will be celebrated at the close of the evening’s serivee. Missioner L. Minifie _ will be the preacher at both services at Te Hapara, and the newly-formed choir will sing Bor the first time. Mr F. H. Forge will preach at Mangapapa at 7 p.m.

The latest addition to business enterprises in Gisborne is that of the Gisborne Engineering Company, Ltd., which have acquired the premises recently by Mr. George Smith, builder, in Bright Street; The company will carry on business as engineers. boilermakers, and motor car repair! work of all kinds. Mr. John Stark, late foreman of works for J. J. Niven and Co., Ltd., at Gisborne, has been appointed manager of the new firm. In the past boiler-makers have had to be brought from outside to do all repair work here, and'the boiler-making department of the new firm will therefore serve a long-felt want., This will be in charge of Mr H D. Pritchard, late boiler-maker for Messrs J. J. Niven and Co., at. Napier. The new firm has installed an up-to-date plant for carrying on the, different branches of their business,' which will b'e under practical engineers. -, ';
