The expert appointed by the Government to examine the Lyell Company’s mines, reports that they are well and skilfully worked, comparing favorably with the best in experience. Every regard is paid for the safety of employees, and the charges of unsafetv of the mines are unfounded. Last year’s disasters must he regarded as abnormal mishaps.
