DISTRICT MEWS.
MOTU. [FROM OUR OffX COEKFSPOXDF.NT] MOTU., Dec. 19. The many friends of Mr J. P. Gordon will "be pleased to know that ids health had so improved as to allow him to travel and he left for W ellington for an extended holiday at the 'beginning of the week. The weather for the last three weeks has been perfect, allowing the roads to dry up everywhere. In consequence of the good state of the roads, the Dtoko Motu coaches have been running from each end daily since the beginning of the week, and are a great convenience to travellers. The last few weeks, there has been a splendid growth of grass and, considering the high prices for fat. stock and wool, the farmers of the district should make a haul this season. The settlers in and around Motu will be sorry to know that while driving from his farm here to Puha on Sunday last Mr L. E. Campbell was taken' suddenly ill and had to he driven straight on into Gisborne, where an operation was performed on the Monday evening. It is understood that appendicitis was the trouble. The committee have everything weh in hand for the sports which are to take place on Boxing Day and given fine weather, they should be a great success, as several have stated there intentions of coming from Gisborne. The arrangements for the Ball in the evening are also well in hand and should put the finishing touch to an enjoyable day's outing.
