LARGE EXPENDITURE ON RIFLES DEFENDED.
[UNITED PSE33 ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT] s , LONDON, Dec. 18. At the Putumayo scandals inquiry, witnesses defended the expenditure of £7OOO on rifles required to resist native attacks. They agreed generally with Sir Roger Casemate’s report. The directors ultimately became aware of tho conditions at Putumayo. The break-up ceremony in connection with the Te Karaka'School takes place to-dav. No prizes will be presented until early in the year.
