PREPARATIONS FOR CELEBRATION OF CENTENARY.
BRITISH COMMITTEE FORMED
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT] (Received Dec. 19, 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 19. A British Committee for the celebration of the centenary of the peace of tho English-speaking nations, has been formed at the Mansion House.' 'J’he Committee will raise £60,000. The preliminary proposals include a monument to George Washington at ■Westminster Ahoy, and the purchase of Sulgrave Manor, his ancestral home. Mr Asquith, Sir Edward Grey and Mr Roosevelt wrote in support of the proposal. Mr Wliitelaw Reid, the United States Ambassador (since dead) wrote on the oth hoping to attend and adding that the movement could not he more opportune and helpful to the peace of the world. Earl Grey and Lord Emmot, Lord Weardale and the Burgomaster of Ghent, where the treaty of 1814 was signed, were present.
