STIMULATING INTEREST IN MISSSION WORK.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION TEfiEGRAHI AUCKLAND, Dec. 18.. When Bishop Woods, of Melanesia, arrived in Auckland last week bv the Missi on steamer Southern Cross,’ he mentioned that Archdeacon Uthwatt, of the Bunana station in the Solomon Islands, had been compelled to leave his mission and proceed to Sydney to convalesce after an attack of blackwater fever. Archdeacon Uthwatt, wdio has now thoroughly recovered, arrived in Auckland to-dav on board the Malwa. Speaking of the work of the mission in the Solomons he said it was going ahead very weM. 'though just now it was being slightly Hampered through want of funds and. men. The Islands were all Quiet and prosperous. - Archdeacon Uthwatt will remain in New Zealand till April when lie will leave on the Southern Cross for the Solomons. In the meantime he will lecture and preach throughout New Zealand with the object of stimulating fresh interest in the work of the mission.
