BATHE PICTURES,
In a pastoral district like Poverty Bay, where almost everyone knows something of station life, cowboy stories must ever prove highly popular. A truly sensational picture, “Monarch s of the Prairie,” forms the star attraction in the week-end change of programme which will make its appearance at His Majesty's Theatre tonight This great production shews the sensational doings at the g'cut -'Pendleton Round-Up,” where the tried and noted riders meet annually in exciting contests of skill and daring to prove the championships of the Great North-West. A thrilling stoiy of the American Civil War, “Fighting Dan AIcCool,” is another very Cue production, which will have the nueience with it. That King of comedians, Air John Bunny, is seen at ino very top of his form in a side-splitting comedy, “The Rcd-Tjik Tragedv.” “The Honeymooners” is a clever Lubin comedy, in which all the fun is .caused by a newly-wedded couple trying to dodge the usual fuss of rice and old shoes. Many other attractive films are included in this high-class series, which can lie shown for tonight only.
EUCHRE PARTY
A very successful euchre party was held in AYootton’s Rooms last evening in aid of the widow and family of the late Air J. Ha-Dick. There was an excellent attendance, and some good games were played. The winner of the gentlemen’s section, Mr Alorterman, went right through and secured eleven games. The following ■were the prizes and prize-winners:— Ladies: Ist prize (4-bottle cruet) won by Aliss Forbes, 2nd prize (mirror) won by Airs AlcCartney; 3rd pnze (trinket box) won by Airs Adam? Gentlemen: Ist prize (umbrella) won by Air Alortimer; 2nd prize (b,x or ]2 teaspoons) won by Air AlcLennan ; 3rd prize (silver-mounted pipe) w m by Afr Glendemnan.
GISBORNE OPERA HOUSE. The new Qnera House is now almost finished, and though there is yet much to he done before it will accommodate p, theatrical company, it will certainly he ready to open on Wednesday- next with a picture programme. It is claimed by the management that the initial programme will be the best ever brought to Gisborne, and with the assistance of a full orchestra the Opera House will prove a pleasant place in which to spend an evening. Mr Stoughton, who arrived last Wednesday to fill the position of musical director, was lately with J. D. Williams, Ltd., and has had both English and Australian experience in the picture business. Associated with Mr Stou°hton is an orchestra of exceptional ability, Miss Lily Strangman being the solo violinist. Mr W. Jaggar, electrician and mechanist to the company, has installed the necessary apparatus to ensure a most up-to-date picture exhibition. From Wednesday next, picture programmes will bo shown in the Opera House every evening, whilst a matinee performance will he held every Saturday at 2.30 o’clock. .
