[PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] - AVAXGAXUI, Sept. 11. Tlio Rugby representative' -match ■Wanganui v. Otago was played to-day in tine weather. The ground was in •capital order. Otago won by 19 to 3. THE LEAGUE CAME. X.S. WALES (42) v. HAWKE’S BAY (9). [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! XAIMER, Sept. 11. In the presence of a crowd of some i>ooo people the League game New South Wales v. Hawke’s Bay was played on the recreation ground today in solemlid weather. The exhibition of the visitors in many respects was a revelation, tind although they won by a large margin of points, the score hardly indicates the nature of the game. The local men put up a surprisingly good fight against the superior combination of the visitors and their tackling was remarkably good. The game was very free from any element of roughness and was played in an admirable spirit throughout. The score at half-time was New South Wales 18, Hawke’s Bay 3. Tries were scored for the visitors bv Glceson, Davis (2), and Cairn, Erawlcy ccnverting three. Johnstone scored for Hawke s Bay. In the second spell Deane. Erawmv {:>,), Ohms on, and AtcCiie scored trio; •for the visitors, Erawley converting •three of them. Cotterill and ‘•Gender’’ feYnith scored for the home team, hut in neither ease a goal resulted. The final score was New South Wales 4-' Hawke’s Bay 9. AW D. McCarthy refereed. Haddocks and McGregor sustained minor injuries during the game, and Thompson had his collar hone broken. 'Manning (Hawke’s Day) had to retire owing to a broken thumb.
