Sir James Carroll asked the Post-master-General in the House of Representatives to-day whether the Government intended to. proceed with the erection of a wireless station at Gisborne.
He stated that on account of it being the most easterly town in New Zealand Gisborne was originally selected as the site of a medium-power wireless station, which would be of immense value to shipping along the East Coast. It was announced by the Department that the station would be completed by last- Christmas, but so far nothing lias apparently been done. Air Rhodes replied that as it is found that the wireless stations at Awanui. Auckland, and Wellington will meet all the requirements of the North Island, it is not now intended to erect a wireless station iat Gisborne.
