THE MUNICIPAL CRISIS.

.(.TO THE EDITOR.) Sir, —Air Peekover, in a letter in vour issue to-day, refers, amongst other things, to* the bitter persecution Air Aiorgan (late Borough Overseer) lias received at the hands of the present Council. Many ratepayers were pained to the heart at the time lie was metaphorically “hounded” out of his position, for he was known to all as a faithful and hardworking servant of the borough, and a most courteous gentleman, who was ever ready to listen to any complaints or suggestions, and acted accordingly in the best interests of the peoplel " No one can honestly deny that if Air Aiorgan had been retained in his position the roads would not have been allowed to drift into such an appalling state as they are at present. To the Borough Engineer’s (Air Paterson) credit, be is said, he stuck loyally to Air Aiorgan, and the. very night before Afr Aiorgan retired from the service told a Council meetino- that no blame was attachable to Air Aiorgan. Now that a by-election is on the tapis, perhaps it would be opportune to probe the matter further, and as Dr Collins is contesting the seat again, he may be able to enlighten the electors on what many of us regard as a blow aimed at a faithful and honorable servant.—l am, etc., FAIR PLAY. Gisborne, Sent. 9.
