A Sydnev cable states that Miss Isaacs, a daughter of Mr Justice Isaacs, avlio has been appointed his associate, took her seat in the High Court —the first time a lady has appeared in an official capacity in the New- South Wales law courts. Mr Hall leaves for Gisborne by the Victoria on Tuesday next. Between 20 and 30 of the Borough Council- staff assembled last night at Mr. A. Bugden’s, in Childer’s Road, when Mr Jas. Richards, on behalf of the staff, presented Mr Jas. Kerr (an old liorough employee avlio is leaving the district'on Wednesday), Avith a smoker’s outfit. Many eulogistic speeches were made by various employees, and the evening Avas enlivened by items rendered by Messrs Peterson, Wells, Hepburn, and Gill Inglis.

The Canadian cadets were passengers by the Zealandia, on an educational trip. The itinerary includes New Zealand. —Sydney P.A. cable. Mr. John Quinn, who lias been for two years on the Borough Council’s surveying staff, leaves for Auckland to-morrow to enter his father’s business. Yesterday afternoon he was approached by his fellow employees and presented with a Gladstone bag suitably inscribed and ;i fountain pen, as a mark of their esteem. Eulogistic speeches were made by the Borough Engineer and the Town Clerk, to which Mr Quinn suitably responded. Miss Glendining, who has been identified with social and philanthropic movements in Palmerston North for some years past, and who founded the Young Men’s Social Club, was entertained by the latter and the citizens in the Municipal Hail last night on her leaving New Zealand for Scotland. The Mayor .presented Miss Glendining with a pair of silver vases and Mr Dawson (President of the Men’s Social Club) presented her with a large photograph of the- committee, etc. — P.A.
