THE TITANIC INQUIRY.

PRESIDENT SUMS EP

[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT] (Received June 2S, 9.25 p.m.) LONDON, June 28.

At the Titanic inquiry Lord Mersey (President) remarked that, the collision occurred in the region: mentioned by the Mesabas’ wireless,'but apparently the message did not reach the Titanic’s bridge, otherwise the disaster would not have occurred, or else it would have been gross carelessness. Apparently Phillips (wireless _ operator) was unable to judge the importance of the message, or was too busy to attend to it. There was, he continued, no evidence of Mr. Ismay’s interference with navigation. ■ _ • Lord Mersev added that he was satisfied that no record passage was being made, and that the crew behaved extremely well.
