EXTRAORDINARY SCENES IN A GERMAN CITY.
Thirsty souls in Muelhausen, Alsace —the Manchester of Germany—are able to satisfy their requirements aithe cheapest rate on record. Good wine can be obtained form the big stores known as “zmn Globus” at the nominal price of 3d per litre, or about Id per pint. This is practically free. This wine fountain is the result of a contest between two local Whiteleys, the Louvre and the Globus. The former began with 5d a litre, and was underbid with 4d by the Globus. The Louvre again cut- the'price, and was undercut, until now the Globus is selling it at the mere amount of the local actroi. Hotels, wine shops, and delighted householders are storming tho Globus with wat-ercans, bedroom jugs, kettles, and every available contrivance which will hold the fluid. The police controlling the crowds outside the stores eagerly await the hour of relief themselves to hurriedly fetch the largest possible bottles.
