A P.A. message from Tirnaru states that the Premier will be present at a social to be tendered to the Hon. Buxton by liis constituents on Friday evening. At the annual meeting of the Dunedin- Harbor Board yesterday Mr. J. H. Walker was elected chairman, defeating; All. W. Belcher, the retiring chairman, bv 7 votes to 6.—P.A. message.
An Ottawa cable states that Mr Foster (Minister, for Commerce), will attend the Imperial Trade Commission and has postponed his projected visit to Australia to discuss reciprocity.
Air H. S. Wan dell, who died at Wellington on Monday, S2 years of age, was the first- resident magistrate in the Poverty Bay district,' exercising his magisterial function for many years. The first piece M Native freehold land acquired in this district was a residential site for the magistrate, being the present cemetery reserve at Makaraka.
