VOTE FOB NATIONAL PROHIBITION.

FIVE PER CENT. SHORT.

[per press association.^] WELLINGTON, Dec. 10. The . official results for the national prohibition . vote are still drifting through to the Chief Electoral Officer (Mr F. E. W. Mansfield). The results do not differ materially from those already published. It is generally anticipated that the vote in favor of prohibition will fall short of the required majority by 5 per cent.

NEW SOUTH WALES VIEWS, TEMPERANCE LEADERS JUBILANT. (Received December 11. 12,25 a.m.) SYDNEY. Dec. 10.

Mr Complin, secretary of the New South Wales Alliance, is jubilant at the New Zealand vote. He says nobody can deny the grand victory. With the assistance of the Catholic vote they probably could have carried prohibition with a good deal to spare. Mr Tennyson Smith, the temperance advocate, predicts that the liquor trade will be badly beaten at the next elections.

The officials of the Licensed Victuallers. Association declined to discuss the position on the incomplete figures.
