GISBORNE GREEN

The following games were played on the Gisborne green on Saturday: Price, Ivynie. W. Pet tie and Monro (skip) 20 beat Crompton, Smallbone, Brown, and McMillan (skip) 13; Ashton, Lewis, Boulton, and Ponsford (skip) 22 beat Gee, Johnson, Maher, and Bright (skip) 15. ;

TURANGANUI CLUB. There was a tendance of players on the green of the ’Turanganui Club on Saturday afternoon. Several promiscuous games were played, and considerable progress was made in the Bennett Cup competition. The matches played resulted : M. G. Nasmith, jnr. 23 beat A. AYallace 10—‘Nasmith had the best of the game throughout. AY. Hay '2O beat A. Sawyer 19.—0 n the stli head the players were level—3 all, but on the 14th head Sawyer led by 15 to 9. Hay then made a good recovery, and was three down on the 20th head, being 16 to his opponent’s; 19. On the last head, however, he got in !his four bowls, and won by one point. E. Gray 19 beat AA r . Paltridge 11.— Up to the 15th head the game was very even, Gray then being 11 to. 10. On the remaining heads Gray scored consistently and won bv eight points. R. Thelwall 27 beat AY- Hay 11.—On the 6th head Thelwall was 7 to 6, but thereafter Hay only scored on four heads, and the -latter suffered defeat by sixteen points. AY. Paltridge 20 heat AI. G. Nasmith jnr 18.—Nasmith was 8 to 7 on the Bth head, and 12 to 11 on the 12th head. Honors were even on the 14th bead with 13 all, and on the 16th head 14 all. The 20th head showed a difference of one point- in Pal fridge’s favor—l 9to 18. On, the final head Paltridge got a single, and Avon by two points. i F. Gray 20 heat C. J. Bennett 19-—-This was a-splendid game right throughout, and at no' stage of the game did any player have a. commanding lead. One point Avas the only difference at the finish. R-. Thelwall 26 beat C. Taylor 13. Up to the 11th 1 head, the game was interesting, Thehvall then, being 9 to Taylor’s 8. From this point Thehvall got the upper hand, and aa-ou easily by 13 points. —Committee Meeting.— A meeting of tlie, committee of the Club was held on Saturday afternoon, tlier© being present: Messrs LI. J. Finn (in the chair), A. Sawyer, B. Hird, D. Barry, J. P. AViliams, and M. G. Nasmith, jnr. (secretary). A letter was received from the Northern Bowling Association, stating that permission to play prize matches in the Gisborne and Turanganui Clubs had been granted to Messrs R. Thelwall and AY. Paltridge. The programme of the Northern Bowling Association’s tournament at AVcllington was received. Messrs J. J. Martin, and A. Sawyer were appointed skips for the, inter-club match for the Poverty Bay Bowling Club championship for'Mr. C. J. Bennett’s trophy, which takes place on the Turanganui green, the probable date being Thursday, December 14thThanks were passed to Mr D. Barry for bis gift, to the furnishing of the pavilion, to Mr. P. Vosper for his kindness in teaching the. fair sex the game of croquet, and to, the subscribers to a telephone, for the club. It, was resolved to hold a. special meetin, <r. of the club on Saturday. December 16th. at the pavilion, to deal with club finance and other matters.
