VALEDICTORY.

PRESENTATION TO MR. H. W. MACINTOSH. A pleasing little ceremony took place at the local Lands and Survey Department yesterday afternoon, the occasion being the departure of Mr. H. W. Macintosh for Auckland, where he has been promoted to the office of Assistant Receiver of Land Revenue. Those present included the officers of the Lands and Survey, Land Transfer, Native Land Court, and Tairawhiti Maori Land Board. Mr. J. G. Clare, chief, draughtsman of the Lands and Survey office, on behalf of those present, made a presentation of a handsome travelling rug and a pair of silver-backed brushes. Ho apologised for the absence of Messrs. G. H. Bullard (Inspecting Surveyor and Land Officer), D. G. Robertson (Crown Lands Ranger), and Messrs. 'E. H. Farnie and J. Roddick (District Surveyors), and spoke in very high terms of Mr. Mackintosh’s ability as a receiver, and also of his obliging and courteous manner to one and all, and wished him every prosperity in the future. Mr. Mackintosh acknowledged with feeling all the good noshes of those present, and thanked all for their kindness to him.
