FIGHTING IN PORTUGAL. THE MONARCHISTS IN FLIGHT. WHY THE INVASION FAILED. (United Press Association—Copyright.) LISBON, Oct. 9. Th o Government troops, after sustaining the Monarchists’ fire for an hour, occupied Viratraes, and chased the Monarchists across the border. Two pursuers were wounded. There is still a small force of Monarchists concentrating at Salgueios., There have been guerilla operations in Vinna do Caste! Lo district. The Government have protested to Spain against the violation of tire frontier. The Premier, in an interview, declared that the invasion had failed because the army was faithful. Forbearance had beeni shown to the Monarchists, but henceforth severe measures would he takenThe Minister of War has resigned. The Government is asking the Premier to summon the Cortes to rirovidte- a means of rapid trial of monarchist conspirators. THE DEATH ROLL. (Received Oct. 11, 1.15 a.m.) LISBON, Oct, 10. One hundred and fifty were killed and wounded during the raid.
