The Borough Engineer (Mr. A. J. Paterson), has received a small case from Messrs J. Dutliie and Co., Wellington, containing cross sections of the rails which are to be used in connection with the tramways. The sections are inlaid into the bottom of the case, and can be removed if necessary for experimental' purposes.

Mr A. H. To-night there will be a session at Ormond arid a number of town skaters are making a special trip out with'the intention of holding a dance after the session. The management of the Pathe Pictures will this evening submit a new programme of moving pictures, all of the films comprising it being of sterling worth. The star film is one entitled “Above the Clouds,’' a beautiful depiction of a thunderstorm taken from tfie top of a mountain. The registration officer for the Gisborne district, reports that the following totals for the week have been attained in the East Coast military area: —Gisborne 98. Napier 192, Danneviike 119, Masterton 146. The total registrations to date for the whole area amount to 426, and of those 175 belong to Gisborne proper.

The sale of work at present being conducted in Whinray’s Hall in aid of the funds of the Ramabai Mission for the child widows of India, was continued with a large measure of success throughout yesterday. The wonderful variety of the goods offered for sale makes the sale interesting even to these who do_ not wish to purchase any of the articles. The sale will be continued to-day up to 8 p.m., when all sates will cease. There was a large attendance of members of the Church <<f England Girls’ Societv at the meeting held last evening. when Miss M. .Rees gave an interesting talk on her work as a teacher in South Africa. Miss Rees told her audience many interesting anecdotes in connection with her own personal experience and a most enjoyable evening was spent. On Friday the Cook County Council will probably consider what action, if any, they will take in connection with the celebration of the Coronation in Gisborne.

A very old resident of Gisborne, Mrs Elizabeth Moore, died at her residence in Palmerston Road yesterday. Mrs Moore had been in bad health for scene time past. She leaves two daughters in Gisborne, one the wife of Mr. R. Moore, a son and daughter who reside in Auckland, and two sons in Sydney, for all of whom much sympathy will be felt.
