FIVE THOUSAND GIRLS WANTED IN AUSTRALIA. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. J SYDNEY, March 31. A meeting of manufacturers discussed the question of shortage of female labor in several States. They were prepared to start large numbers of bands, buttn© - bands were unavailable. One manufacturer declared that Sydney and Melbourne between them could absorb olkw girl employees. One firm bad orders for forty thousand’ garments, but there- was no hope of filling the orders owing to dearth. of hands. The manufacturerswere willing to increase wages by 5 per cent. The meeting resolved to ask the Gvernmenfc to assist hr bringing out girl immigrants, who would be guaranteed regular work at the ruling rate of wages.
