VISITS GISBORNE
The Dominion Quartermaster, Air. J. R. Douglass, is at present visiting the various scout districts. On Saturday morning lie arrived hero, being met by Commander Redward at the steamer. The local scouts paraded in the Garrison Hall at 8.30, and were addressed by th,j Quartermaster, though somewhat briefly; on account o-f the limited time at his disposal. Some fifty boys were present, and he expressed groat pleasure at meeting them. He complimented them on their appearance, saying that they compared very favorably with the southern scouts. Tie was glad to notice several wearing their second-class badges, and hoped they would all work hard and pass the first-class tests in order that "they might go in for the special badges. The scouts were dismissed at- 9 o’clock to enable tho district officers to discuss matters with the- Quartermaster. Questions of equipment, organisation, discipline, etc., were, gone into, w-lien it was found that, notwithstanding its- isolation, the Gisborne battalion is well to the fore in all that is required of it. Quartermaster Douglass went on by the- -s.s. Victoria to Auckland, whence ho will return home by the Alain Trunk line, stopping at various centres, pn route.
