OUTBREAK IN SAMOA

[Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Feb. 14

The s.s. Katanga, which arrived on Saturday reports that the Savaii volcano at Samoa has been unusually active of late. A severe earthquake was felt in the group at the end of January. The seismograph at Nulinu, Samoa, has registered several earthquake shocks lately, the whole of them being within a few miles of the group. On Wednesday, the 19th ult., a violent eruption occurred, which lasted for the space of about GO minutes. The centre of the shock was probably in the Sololnon Islands.
