FRESH HOPES AWAKENED
United Press Association— Copyright MELBOURNE, Feb. 14.
The State Premier has received a cable from Capetown, stating that tihe disabled steamer Avas not sighted by the .Ulva, but Avas seen from Marion Island going south-east under sail. She appeared to be travelling at the rate of three knots. A sealing party reported the matter to the captain of the Ulva. The vessel carried all possible canvas. She was only seen once between the snow squalls. She disappeared from view in the following squall. The weather Avas very cloudy at the time. The news has awakened fresh hope in those interested in the passengers. Captain Mitchell thinks the vessel, if it is the Waratah, will noAv be in the vicinity of Kerguelen Island, and the ship’s company may be quite safe there.
