GISBORNE CLUB

A match in the first round of the handicap singles of the Gisborne Rowling Club was played on the club s o'resell yesterday afternoon between R. Robertson and J. J. Martin, and provided one of the best exhibitions or single-handed play ever witnessed on the Martin conceded Robertson 5 points, his own handicap being two behind scratch, while the latter s allowance was three points. Both competitors played with admirable skill, drawing with much accuracy, and, therefore, putting up some excellent heads. Robertson got in. three bowls on the first. Martin then scored on four consecutive heads,' putting on seven points. Robertson then resumed scoring, and on the Otli head had cairied his score (exclusive of handicap) to 9 while Martin had only added a single. The latter, however, got in on the” following six heads, putting op 8 points. Robertson replied by scoring four singles in succession, so that on the 19th head, allowing for the handicaps, he had a lead of 2 points—l 6to 14. On the 20th head Martin lav a couple, so that the final head was started with the scores equalised. The plav on this head was exceedingly fine, Robertson got his third bowl m. and Martin, with his final shot, failed to disturb him. Robertson, having won the game by a single point 17 to lb threw aWay his last howl.
