AUSTRALIAN NAVAL POLICY.
AN ORANGEfvIAN’S WARNING. VEILED HOSTILITY TO BRITAIN. United Press Association, Copyright SYDNEY, Fob. 10. Mr. Johnson, a .'member of the House of Representatives, speaking at a local Orange gathering, said that they would have to carefully watch the naval policy of tho Commonwealth, because under the guise of creating an.. Australian navy, the party in power wore striving to get the nucleus of a navy that was not to act in conjunction, with tho British fleet; but some of them, ho would not say all of them, had in their mind’s eye the time when they would be able to turn an Australian fleet against a British fleet in Australian waters. The sentiment was there, and the spirit was actively fanned in quarters in which Orange institutions were actively opposed. A FEDERAL MINISTER'S DENIAL. A CHARGE AS FOOLISH AS FALSE. (Received Feb. 10, 9.15 p;nn) SYDNEY, Feb. 10. The Minister of Defence characterises Mr. Johnson’s statement that in certain quarters the idea of-construct-. yjfyag an Australian navy was to turn it against the British fleet as a hystei ioal charge as foolish as it was false.
