Lord Rosebery announces that £2OOO has been subscribed for the erection of a statue to the Marquis of Linlithgow (first Governor-General of tho Australian Commonwealth) at Edinburgh.
A THEATRICAL LAWSUIT
William Begg, an actor ‘known in Australia, has recovered £2OO damages against Edward Collis for breach of agreement in not producing in London a play entitled * “For the King.”
FEEDING UNDERFED CHILDREN
The London Education Committee is applying to the London County Council for £IO,OOO from the rates to provide- meals for underfed children. This amount will be required if voluntary subscriptions are maintained.
THE FOREIGN LEGION MUTINY
The leader of the Foreign Legion mutiny lias been captured. Parisian newspapers declare that the headquarters of the desertion agency is at Cologne.
SIMONSTOWN NAVAL DOCK
CAPETOWN, Dec. 17
The South African Union Convention delegates visited and were deeply impressecl witli the naval docks at Simonstown, as visible evidence that the Imperial power is able to accommodate the Dreadnought or any ves s sel afloat, except tlie Mauretania. The dock cost two and a half millions.
THE PEARLING DISASTER
PERTH, Dec. 18
It is estimated that fifty perished in the pearling fleet disaster. Damage to the extent, of £20,000 was done.

As a result of a heated discussion on the Licensing Bill in the Legislative Council, Mr. Lucas attempted to strike Mr. Wilson, a Labor member, in the face. Mr. Wallis, another Labor member i liter veneuT" and received ,a blow on tlie chest. Lucas endeavored to reach other members, but Wallis held him.
