TAI-RAWHITI LAND BOARD.
A special meeting of the Tai-Raw-hiti Land Board was held yesterday morning. The Board consisted ol Air. T. N. Broderick, acting president, Air. A.. Keefer, European member, and Otone Pitau, Maori member. Air. A. L. D. Fraser, ALP., on behalf of Air. M. F. Bourke, applied for consent to lease the Kopua block of 500 acres, near Wairoa. This matter came before the Board before, but it was discovered that llax land licenses could not be given for a longer period than five years, but this haa been provided bv the Maori Land Adjustment Act, but the execution of the lease had not been signed by the late president. Air. Bourke had spent* large sums of money on the swamp to bring in a revenue, and lie asked that the lease be made for 21 years. Air. Bourke had been informed that lie had a clear title, or he would not have expended so iuucli. The Aeting President stated that the request would he acceded to, and tlie Board was prepared to recommend a lease of 21 years, with right of renewal. The following applications for consent to lease, under section 29 of the Maori Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act,. 1907, were dealt with:—.R. iS, Maunsell (applicant), Puhatikotiko No. So, Eruera tc Awahaku and others (lessors); George Scott, Aliirau No. 2k, Wirenin Kingi and others; W. F. Stephenson, Ruaohientu No. 2, Kere Atotihe and others; Pern: Alataora, lunin.ra No. 7. Peno Alataora and others; George Scott, Waihora No. lsj, Karepa Kautuku and others; George Scott', Aliirau No. 2k, Karepa Kautuku and others; G. H. Glass, lulmtikotiko Nos. sn2nl, on2nJ, on2u-l, and sn2iis, Rutene Ahuroa and others. , .. . , Alcssrs. Blair and Samsbury appeared for the applicants.. The adjourned cases will be taken to-day.
