COUNTRY NEWS.
WAIPIRO BAY. (from our correspondent.) The Minister for Education, Hon. Geo. Fowlds, and his secretary, Mr Crow, the Inspector of Native Schools, Mr Bird, and Dr. Valintine, Inspector" General of Hospitals, arrived in Waipiro Bay on Thursday evening. On Friday morning the party visited the Waipiro Public School, the Hon. Minister baying consented to distribute tlio prizes to the school children. On arriving at the school the party were received by the Chairman and the members of the Committee. The chairman, Mr Durrant, gave a short speech, warmly welcoming the Minister and thanking him for having so graciously acceded to his request tributc the prizes. The Hon. Minister replied, and addressed the children at some length. Alter the prizes were distributed to tbe liappy recipients, the Minister announced that lie had the Chairman’s consent to proclaim a holiday for the remainder of the day. Three hearty cheers were then given for the Minister, and the pleasant proceedings were terminaated by the Hon. Minister and Mr Bird snap-shotting the children, teachers and members of the Committee.
