OBITUARY.
MR. EDWARD LAKE, EX-M.H.R. Press Association. AUCKLAND, Fob. 25. The death occurred this morning oi Mr. Edward Lake, who for several years sat- in Parliament as representative of the Waipa seat, later merged into the Waikato electorate. Mr. Lake, who was born in Kent, England, in 1547, came to New Zealand in 1575, and took up farming atFernside, an estate of over a thousand acres, near Ohaupo. He took an immediate interest in local politics, and was shortly elected to the chair of the Waipa County Council. In 1884 he was elected for the Waipa seat as an opponent of the StoutVogel Administration, and in 1892-3 he sat as an opponent of tho late Mr. Ballanee. He then retired, and was succeeded by Mr. F. W. Lang.
