FIGHTING IN INDIA.
BRITISH FORCES SUCCESSFUL. United Press Association—Copyright CALCUTTA, Feb. 23. Columns under Brigadiers Anderson and Barrett on Friday attacked the Zakka'khels, who were posted behind strong sangars and the high hills around Halwa, seven miles from Chiiid. The positions were carried and the t-owers below destroyed. Major Forbes Sempill, of the Seaforths, was killed. Major-General Willcock describes Major Forbes Sempill as one of (he best officers in the service j who was killed while gallantly leading one if His Majesty’s finest battalions. Two Indian non-commis-sioned officers aid eight Sepoys were wounded, but are doing well. Major-General W T illcocks attributes the smallness of the loss in mountain warfare in part to the peace training of the troops. Brigadier Barrett by a frontal attack seized tlio hills, while the Seaforths entered Bazar Valley. Brigadier Anderson .simultaneously marched to another valley and debouched over the kotal, delivering a flank attack. The ene my, being reinforced, clung near the flanks of the retiring Britishers, (but made no impression.
