BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION.

A fairly well attended meeting in regard to a Beekeeper’s Association was held at Townley’s Hall on Saturday afternoon, and Mr E. Smith was elected chairman and Mr. Adams secretary pro tern. Mr Adams said lie had long recognised that the workers in this industry had nob received the full reward. This was one product that was not affected bv the law of supply and demand and lie did not see why they should not go to outside districts instead of taking wliat was offered. If an Association was formed, the members of the Association could supply a large quantity, whore a single person could not do so. The Association would be for mutual benefit, and now that the Government had given protection to the industry, they would ie foolish not to take advantago of it If they formed an Association for the district, an inspector would see timb things were done properly. Mr Niven suggested that as regards the inspector, the Association could appoint oife.. 'l’lie chairman pointed out that this could be attended to after the Association was formed. Mr Niven moved accordingly, and the motion was carried. Mr Adams seconded. The chairman stated that some of the beekeepers would not destroy bees when instructed by an inspector. Others present spoke in favor of the Association. 'l’lie motion was carried. The following officers were elected: President, Mr G. Stephenson; Vice President, Mr Smith; secretary and treasurer, Mr Adams; committee, the members of the Association. It was decided to name the Association the “Poverty Bay Beekeepers Association.”

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the chairman, Mr Stephenson having taken his position. The matter of subscription was discussed and it was fixed at ss, on the motion of Mr J. Johnston.
