gir .—Referring to your lead.'ng. article on the subject of immigration, a,ud also to the seriousness of tlie Sunderland unemployed, 1 a copy of same to the Hon, AY. IlallJones to peruse, and Tie courteously writes me as follows:—“X read With interest the newspaper cutting you enclosed, and also your observations •with reference to immigration. While I am personally fully acquainted with the desirableness of our population increasing, still I do not think it wise to induce immigrants to conic at a Greater rate than we can couvoniently absorb. To do go would land us in the same difficulties that Canada is at present experiencing. ltegaruing the Sunderland distress, 1 have received a telegram .from Sir Joseph Ward, stating that ’‘the .subject is now under consideration/ :o that I trust the Government will endeavor to do something for these men 1 am, etc. qj-j AI ; [/Eg GOAVLAND.
