GISBORNE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The Gisborne School Committee met last night. Present: Messrs Somervell, Spence. Wildish, Bright, Sawyer, and Revs. Griffin and Grant. Leave of absence for a week was granted to Messrs Powell and Kinder. It was decided to distribute the regular attendance medals and certificates won last year, oh Thursday next, at 2.30 p.m. A discussion t-ook place on the question of erecting stables for children’s horses, and it was decided to approach the Board of Governors on the matter.
Miss A\ Puflett, who is at present a pupil teacher at the Port Ahuriri school and who has had two years’ training,at the AVellinKton Training College, was appointed assistant mistress. It was decided to purchase a number of Indian clubs and dumbells. Satisfaction was expressed at the success of the children in the scholarship and matriculation examinations. The Headmaster reported that Miss (low was absent on sick leave, and that Air. Alorice was acting temporarily. Air. Harold Powell-had taken up his duties as assistant maser. The secondary department had now a roll of 59, which was much higher than ever before. The total roll'was 902. and the average attendance since tho opening of the school had been 773. Mm. Grant, Colin Anderson. Elliott Hookey, Albert Rhinesmith. and Reginald Scarfe bad won junior Board scholarships, and Geo. Redpath a senior Board scholarship. Noel Bull. AVm. Dunphy, and Geo. Redpath passed the matriculation examination from the secondary department, as dul Alixs K. Alorgan. one of the teachers.
