G. E. Dartou; “The Ladies,” responded to by Alessrs AVest and Creamer.

The annual general meeting of the Poverty Bay Coursing Club will ho field at the lloyal Hotel this evening at 7.30 o’clock. Great interest -in coursing in this district has followed tho formation of the Club, and tho membership now stands at 120. Tho Club has been fortunate in securing twelve acres from Air Henry AY’hite, immediately opposite that gentleman’s residence on the Ormond road, which will make one of the finest coursing grounds in the Australasion colonies. There is certain to be a very large attendance at the annual meeting this evening, when several important matters are to be brought up. In Air Cuthbert Alorse, the Club have a capable and energetic honorary secretary, from whom all information relating to the sport may be obtained.

During the hearing of the ease against Siinmelhag and AUNeil at the Police Court yesterday afternoon the S.M. mid on several occasions to reprimand accused for interrupting the proceedings. At the previous hearing the conduct of accused in the dock was exemplary but tho witness heard yesterday had not proceeded far with his evidence before one of the accused exclaimed “What a lie!” The S.M. warned the accused to keep quiet, remarking that it was a pity they had been out on bail . After a time accused were quietened, but later commenced to chatter and giggle, and this became so objectionable that they had to be reprimanded again. At the finish of the proceedings accused again endeavoured to bandy words with the S.M., and had to be ordered out of Court to enable other butiness to proceed.

A special mooting of the County Council wan hold yesterday in refcienco to Mr. W. L. Roes’ schenio to run tramways along the county roads. Tin: chairman (the Hon. Captain Tucker) moved that the permission ho given, subject to the Council having the right Lo impose conditions. Mr. \V. Ij. Roes stated, in reply to Or. W. J). S. Macdonald, that the Council would lie liable to maintenance charges. The motion was put and carried. After Mr. Hops withdrew, a discussion took place in regard to tho condition, and it was decided that the Council should have the right lo take over tho lino upon throe months’ notice, and the Council reserved tho right, if public inconvenience was can sod, to rescind the permission.
