A witness at the Police Court yesterday morning caused a slight diversion by wrongly taking up the Magistrate's customary question, “Do '*oii know the accused?” referring to the two female occupants of the dock. “I don’t ’know’- them,” he replied in a most injured tone, evidently feeling aggrieved at being blamed with being acquainted with such persons.

Next Thursday evening the Salvation Army Band gives another of their auxiliary league musical programmes at the Barracks. .The entertainment will consist of band selections, vocal items, duets, quartettes. and various other musical items, and league members will be admitted free on production of their tickets. For others there will be a charge of Gd. The proceeds go towards the Band funds.

Says the Lyttelton Times: —A smart-looking boy. who gave his age as sixteen, was charged at the Police Court one day last week with having dressed and undressed in view of the public at New Brighton. Ho pleaded not guilty, and the constable who laid the information was called. A hunt round the Court purlieus by a sergeant of police and the Court orderly failed to produce the vigilant* guardian of the peace who watches over innocent New Brighton. Sub-Inspector Dwyer thereupon asked for a remand for a week, but tho Justices on the Bench said that it was the constable’s duty to be present, and they would not agree to a remand. The boy was discharged, and 'left the Court with a delighted grin overspreading his face.
