AQUATICS.
' A great ileal of interest was evinced throughout the competition for the Poverty 'Bay Club’s President’s Cup, particularly in the final between Nicholas and Somervell, and a fair crowd gathered on the Haiti bridge on Friday last despite the drizzling rain falling. The majority of those present were of opinion that Nicholas would win fairly easily, anil tin's proved to- be the case. Somervell’s crew though beaten rowed a game race anil thoroughly deserved the cheers accorded them at the finish. The win of Nicholas was very popular, especially after tho defeat of the favorites, AleLeod’s crew, on the previous evening. This crew contained two of the men selected to represent the club at tho Napier regatta. The coxswain of tho winning crow was J. Lang, who, with the members oi the crew, receives a gold medal. Air Alex AlcConnell coached tho four, and no doubt feels highly gratified at having trained the winners of the club championship for 1908.
